Hassle-Free Snow Leopard Upgrades

Prior to any major OS upgrade, there are some important things to consider before investing your time and money in the process. Here are some things you should think about before upgrading to Snow Leopard. Once you've looked this over, if you have any questions, just let us know.

Hey! Don't miss our "Intro to Snow Leopard" workshop in early September. Register today to learn more about the new cat!

Should I upgrade to Snow Leopard?
We think Snow Leopard is going to be a "must have" upgrade. Apple has made a tremendous amount of improvements in system performance and capabilities that will make your Mac better, faster, and easier. And the additional built-in support for Microsoft Exchange will be a big benefit for business customers that rely on Exchange for mail and calendaring.

Can I install Snow Leopard on my Mac?
To see if you can upgrade your Mac to Snow Leopard, check out the system requirements:
  • Mac computer with an Intel processor (not compatible with PowerPC-based Macs)
  • 1GB of memory
  • 5GB of available disk space
  • DVD drive for installation

Am I eligible for the $29 or $49 Snow Leopard upgrade?
If you currently have Leopard (version 10.5) installed on your Mac, just buy the single user license of Snow Leopard for $29 or the family pack for $49. However, if you have an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X version 10.4 Tiger, your only option for upgrading to Snow Leopard is to purchase the Mac Box Set for $169. This includes Snow Leopard, iLife '09 creative suite, and iWork '09 productivity suite.

Will it break my applications?
Quite frankly, it could. If you're using your Mac for your business or have an application you just can't get by without for any length of time, it's probably a good idea to wait to upgrade for about a month. This will give Apple and other third-party software developers time to put out updates to their software and fix any bugs. But if you don't use a lot of third-party applications, then you may have nothing to worry about and can upgrade whenever you're ready.

Is there anything I need to do before upgrading?
Yes. If you're having any issues with your Mac right now, make sure you get them resolved ahead of time (
